| Filleting Y Bones from Northern Pike is not a mystery, it is science and art, and a little bit of technique and practice. There are a few different methods to use but here we will show what is often called the "slab" method. You end up with 2 completely deboned fillets using this method. Although not the fastest method, we believe it best represents the art of filleting Northern Pike. |
The slab represents one side of the above Northern Pike that is displayed on the twin pack Fillet King boards arranged lengthwise (handles 40 inch fish comfortably) The Fillet King Twin Pack is the most popular fillet board system for Northern Pike in the Mid-West. No more chasing the Pike around on the tail gate of your pick-up! Check out Modular Twin Pack on the Pricing page.

For ease of photography, the head has been removed first and is not necessary for the slab method. We do suggest that the bottom fins and top fins be removed for ease of filleting using this method. The fish is filleted back to belly getting as close to the rib line as possible giving you two complete fillets. next page |
