A selected amount of fish, usually 2-4 are filleted by the contestents. They must be boneless and skinless completed fillets. Rib bones discovered disqualify that fillet usually leading to non qualification in minimum standards. The emphasis is strictly on quality of fillet and not speed, although a time limit is established to keep the event moving and to allow for ample contestants to compete. These events have proven quite competitive as the local contestants performance determines once and for all who is the better filleter of pan fish in a fair, unbias, public event. The inclusion of membeship into the Master Filleters Registration Log is a source of pride and accomplishment for the contestants and the Award Certificate is an attractice addition to the game room at home.
